Brothers and Sisters,
(1 Peter 1:7) That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
The Word of God says that the trial of your faith is more precious than gold. Statements like this totally amaze me when I read them in God’s Word. This causes me to stop and reflect on what this is really saying and the message that God is conveying to me at this particular time in my life. How can the trial of my faith be much more precious than gold?
- Gold perishes
When you look at 1 Peter 1:7 it says “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth…”.
Jesus warned us about laying up for ourselves the treasures of this world. (Matthew 6:19) Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. Jesus instructed us to focus our efforts on laying up treasures in heaven. (Matthew 6:20) But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. He then goes on to say. (Matthew 6:21) For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Many in our day have spent their entire life trying to get ahead financially while neglecting the things of God. It is so easy to fall into that trap. I know that I’ve struggled with that at times in my own life, but one thing I’ve learned as the years have passed is that all this world has to offer cannot compare to the riches we have in Christ. Even though I have to go through some trials here, they are only temporary and will soon fade away along with the treasures of this world.
- Faith is forever
Again, looking at 1 Peter 1:7 it says, “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious…”
The thing that makes the trial of your faith much more precious than gold, is that faith is forever. The things of this world are going to vanish away (melt with fervent heat).
(2 Peter 3:10) But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
So, when your faith is being tried like it is with this COVID-19 pandemic, rejoice because the day is coming when all of these things will be gone forever. However, our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will last forever. If you’ll look at 1 Peter 1:7 in context, you’ll be able to see why the trial of your faith is much more precious than gold. In verse 4, Peter tells us the end result of our faith. (1 Peter 1:4) To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you. Now, notice what it says in verse 6, which leads right into verse 7. Verse 6 instructs us to greatly rejoice in the midst of this trial because it is only going to last for a season. So my friend, to answer our question, this is what makes the trial of our faith much more precious than gold and as a result we can greatly rejoice. AMEN!!!
(1 Peter 1:6) Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
(1 Peter 1:7) That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
Rejoicing in faith,
Bro. Rick
